FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves fluorination of polyfluoroethanes - tetrafluoro-, trifluoro-, difluoroethanes or their mixtures with cobalt trifluoride. Process is carried out at 220-390 C at content of an active fluoride in cobalt trifluoride 5-12% at high rate feeding the parent product. Optimal temperatures for synthesis of pentafluoroethane and hexafluoroethane are 220-260 C and 320-390 C, respectively. Yields of pentafluoroethane and hexafluoroethane are 67% and 94%, respectively. EFFECT: increased yield of products. 4 cl, 1 tbl
