FIELD: chemistry of heterocyclic compounds. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro -1,4, -benzothiazepines of formula II: wherein n is 0 or 1; R1,R2,R6 and R7 are H; R3 and R4 are H or methyl, or together are imino, methylimino, phenylimino, hydoxyimino or methoxyimino group; R5 is H or methyl, or when R3 and R4 are H or methyl, R5 is H, methyl, formyl, acetyl, propionyl, benzoyl, methyl, sulfinyl, methyl sulfonyl or ethyl sulfonyl; R8 is H, methyl, fluorine or chlorine; and R9,R10 and R11 are H provided that R1-R11 are not all H, and when n is O and R1-R4 and R6-R11 are H, then R5 is not benzoyl or acetyl, and when n is O or 1 and R4 is methyl, then R1-R3 and R5-R11 are not all hydrogen, stereoisomers thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The claimed method of preparing compounds of formula II comprises reducing corresponding 2,3,4,5- tetrahydro -1,4-benzothiazepine 3-oxo derivatives. The pharmaceutical composition has anticonvulsive effect and comprises, as active ingredient, compounds of formula II or identical 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4- benzothiazepine derivatives.
