ELECTRODYNAMIC GUN Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2116604 C1

FIELD: military equipment, antirocket electrodynamic guns used in action zone of third echelon of antimissile defense. SUBSTANCE: solenoid 1 is fed from emf source 4. Start of feed and its adjustment are carried out by means of key 2 and rheostat 3. After setting of required value of current in solenoid 1 key 5 is put into superconductive state. Key 5 is transferred from normal resistive state into superconductive one by switching off of heater 6. Key 2 breaks. Then capacitor bank 9 discharges to accelerating coil 7 after operation of commutator 8. Emerging pulse field induces currents in conductive walls of insert 10. Interaction of this current with pulse field causes emergence of electrodynamic force compressing insert 10 with captured initial field created by solenoid 1. Owing to conical shape of insert 10 pulse of magnetic field moves towards electroconductive projectile inducing currents in it which interaction with pulse field results in emergence of electrodynamic force setting projectile in motion. Such design of gun makes it possible to increase initial velocity of fired projectile due to enhancement of amplitude and reduced time of growth of accelerating magnetic field.
