FIELD: metallurgy; methods of iron direct production by its reduction from its oxides in liquid slag bath. SUBSTANCE: electrode-current collector is enclosed in water-cooled casing and immersed in layer of liquid slag. Length of part of electrode-current collector moved out of water-cooled casing and coming in contact with liquid slag amounts to 20-70 D, where D is diameter of electrode-current collector. The invention provides for insulation of electrode-current collector from ground, high-temperature oxidizing gas atmosphere, continuous measurement of potential difference between slag bath and ground and resistance of slag bath as a whole, which are directly connected with physicochemical processes occurring in unit of ROMELT of liquid phase reduction and unit operating conditions. EFFECT: provision of device of prolonged continuous operation for monitoring the process of liquid-phase reduction by variation of electrical parameters such as difference of potentials and resistance. 2 dwg, 2 tbl
