FIELD: fresh water production. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed to produce fresh water for temporary consumers (drill teams, geological prospecting groups, etc. ) in Extreme North and may be used to produce fresh water from underground ice, deposits of which are widespread in the North areas. Method consists in boring hole in the bulk of underground ice and thawing it with warm running water. To that aim, flood water is utilized, which has been preliminarily accumulated in tank located higher than bored well. To provide maximum contact of running water with walls of well, the latter is tightly covered and divided by a vertical partition, not touching the bottom, into two halves, one of them being connected over supply hose to tank and the other, over discharge hoses, to tank and consumer. Running water is returned into tank using the wind power received by wind turbine disposed in tank. Wind turbine consists of horizontal wind-actuated rod with blades transferring water from the well into tank. EFFECT: no need in supplementary power.
