FIELD: animal farming, in particular, hog selection. SUBSTANCE: method involves evaluating breeding hogs by control feeding, which involves selecting and setting progeny of boars under control for feeding with further slaughtering; evaluating quality of obtained carcasses; prior to progeny evaluation of boars under control, evaluating them by their own productivity at live weight of 100 kg on the basis of results of control growing. To evaluate boars by progeny, at least three sows are selected for each boar; upon obtaining of progeny, at least six young sows, three boars and three boars adapted for castration are selected. When live weight of young pigs reaches 100 kg, at least three young sows and three boars are used for further breed reproduction, and at least three young sows and three boars are directed for control slaughtering. All young pigs grown to 100 kg are individually evaluated by their own productivity (by phenotype), as well as by their own productivity, sibs and half-sibs (by genotype); and sire is evaluated for progeny quality (by genotype) in addition to evaluation of its own productivity (by phenotype). EFFECT: reduced cost of evaluation of breeding hogs by reduced evaluation time, decreased number of slaughtered animals and increased precision of evaluation results. 4 tbl, 2 ex
