FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: substance of the method consists in the fact that gilts and boars tested on 28–30 days by genotype AA of gene MC4R (gene melanocortin receptor-4), which influences characteristics determining fattening and meat productivity of an animal. Selection of animals and formation of paternal and maternal herds by genotype AA of the MC4R gene is carried out taking into account the frequency of occurrence of this genotype in these herds of not less than 60%, level of homozygosity in both herds should be not less than 0.7–0.8 (70–80%), level of genetic similarity is 0.4 (40%). As a result, selection characteristics by fattening and meat qualities of descendants in comparison with parental generation increases.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to accelerate selection process at creation of paternal and maternal herds of pigs with high genetic potential of fattening and meat qualities twice due to selection of gilts and boars from sows at an early age with a certain genotype of MC4R gene.
