FIELD: NONFERROUS METALLURGY. SUBSTANCE: crust-washing reagent is loaded into furnace to provide constant contact of reagent, which is matte formed in furnace when smelting rich copper concentrate from flotation separation of copper-nickel converter matte containing iron sulfide. Matte is supplied in amount providing ratio of matte iron weight to summary weight of nickel, cobalt, and iron in crust to be equal to 1:(2-5). EFFECT: reduced crust erosion time, increased copper recovery due to excluded formation of return nickel slag, and reduced power consumption. 2 tbl
