FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: metered out amount of heated fuel is injected into intake channel of engines cylinder head at intake stroke. Amount of fuel is set to meet speed and load conditions of engine. Lean fuel-air mixture, thus formed, in compressed in cylinder by piston, fuel is delivered into atomizer and atomizer valve is forced off its seat in direction of fuel flow. Swirl motions of lean fuel-air mixture are formed in combustion chamber in piston. Fuel in form of wide hollow cone is injected into combustion chamber through clearance between valve and seat. Fuel injection is provided at mean specific velocity not exceeding 0.0025 l per degree of crankshaft turning, and velocity is found as ratio of value of cyclic delivery of fuel into combustion chamber to product of cyclic air consumption and actual duration of fuel injection into combustion chamber. EFFECT: increased economy, reduced toxicity of exhaust gases of compression ignition engine. 8 cl, 3 dwg
