FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in multi-fuel piston crosshead engines with detonation ignition of the air-fuel mixture. The method of combustion of gasoline fuel in a piston engine is to supply fuel and air into the combustion chamber of the engine. From the cavity of the combustion chamber (37), when the pressure reaches 1.0 MPa, two pre-chambers (28) and (29) are separated and isolated, with separate injection of gasoline into the pre-chambers (28) and (29) and the combustion chamber (37), creating they have a lean air-fuel mixture. Sequential detonation ignition occurs. The first detonation ignition occurs in the combustion chamber (37) when the piston reaches TDC pressure of 2.5 MPa. The second and third detonation ignition is carried out in pre-chambers (28) and (29). The second detonation ignition occurs after 40 degrees of crankshaft rotation from top dead center (TDC). The third detonation ignition occurs after 80 degrees of crankshaft rotation from TDC under the influence of gases from the combustion chamber (37) with a pressure above 5 MPa and a gas temperature above 2000 degrees Celsius. The piston crosshead engine is disclosed.
EFFECT: increase of the engine power.
