FIELD: radio, photo and pyrometry, other fields of measurement technology related to modulation of luminous flux of energy. SUBSTANCE: modulating element is made from optically anisotropic polar monocrystal rigidly fixed in mount on rotation axis of motor. Luminous flux is modulated thanks to change of reflectivity on modulation frequency with change of orientation of optical axis C of monocrystal with reference to electric vector E. Optical axis of monocrystal is parallel to its flat surface. Modulating element is so positioned in mount that flat surface is perpendicular to axis of motor and faces radiation source and detector. Modulating element of optico-mechanical modulator is manufactured from leucosapphire. Invention provides for modulation of electromagnetic radiation of quantity-produced CO2 lasers, modulator is simple in design and ensures large modulation indices (≥ 90%) of luminous flux with energy density up to 45 W/sq.cm, it has high speed of action.
