FIELD: environment control; decontamination of polybiphenyl-containing articles. SUBSTANCE: method includes heating of articles by gas oxygen jet at temperature not below 2000 C to obtain temperature of from 600 to 750 C on their surface accompanied by heating the walls of afterburner chamber to temperature above 1000 C; gases escaping from articles are heated to temperature of no less than 1300 C at afterburner chamber inlet at absence of free oxygen accompanied by supply of ammonia in amount sufficient for fixation of hydrogen chloride. Then they are subjected to afterburning at oxygen content at afterburner chamber outlet ranging from 3 to 5 percent. Escaping gases are held in afterburner chamber for no less than 1.5 s. At afterburner chamber outlet gases are sucked through layer of kaolin cotton at simultaneous injection of ammonia. EFFECT: guaranteed cleaning of articles from polybiphenyl-containing substances; reliable protection against highly-toxic dioxines. 3 cl, 2 tbl
