FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: synthesis gas is generated by partially oxidizing hydrocarbon raw material with air in cylinder space of internal combustion engine at piston top dead position, after which expansion and cooling of process products follow when piston moves toward lower dead position, and products containing synthesis gas are withdrawn from reaction space when piston moves toward top dead position. Hydrocarbon material and air at oxygen to hydrocarbon ratio 0.4-0.5 are introduced into working volume of cylinder. Partial oxidation involves 5-10 vol % of hydrocarbon material-air mixture (at oxygen/hydrocarbon volume ratio 0.8-1.2) leading to high-extent oxidation of hydrocarbons involved, and products of high-extent oxidation mix with original air-fuel mixture in working volume of cylinder and inflame the mixture.
