FIELD: gas fuel production. SUBSTANCE: method includes burning gas hydrocarbon raw material mixed with air at d = 0.5-0.8 and oxidizing hydrocarbons under compression of mixture by piston in cylinder space of an compression-type internal combustion engine; expanding and cooling process products upon movement of piston towards lower dead point; withdrawing process products containing synthesis gas from reaction space upon movement of piston towards upper dead point; introducing fresh portion of working mixture upon movement of piston towards lower dead point. According to invention, hydrocarbon material-air mixture is introduced into cylinders having been preheated to 200-450 C, and compression of mixture is effected 10-2-10-3 sec before the beginning of self-inflammation and rising temperature to 1300-2300 C.
