FIELD: inorganic chemistry, more particularly purification of gas mixtures from carbon monoxide in collective and individual protection system of breathing organs in industrial exhausts, and purification of exhaust gases in internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises reacting copper sulfate solution with sodium hydroxide solution while reagents are stirred, subsequently separating product and treating it by electrodyalysis. The claimed method makes it possible to obtain active copper oxide suitable for making highly efficient catalyst based on said copper oxide. Said catalyst is used for oxidation of carbon monoxide.
