FIELD: industrial inorganic syntheses. SUBSTANCE: solid cupric oxide is thermally treated under stirring in atmosphere containing 85-98 vol % water vapor at 200-300 C. High-activity cupric oxide obtained is appropriate to prepare effective carbon monoxide oxidation catalysts, which, in particular, may be used for cleaning gas mixtures and in respiratory organ- protection systems.
