FIELD: inorganic chemistry, particularly, production of catalysts being used for purification of gaseous mixture against carbon oxide, for purification of industrial waste and for purification of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: method involves interaction of solution of copper sulfate having concentration 20-40 mass % with solution of sodium hydroxide, the process is carried out by mixing and is followed by separation of desired product. Interaction of reagents is completed when residual amount of sodium hydroxide in solution is less than 5 mass %. EFFECT: improved catalytic activity of catalyst being prepared on the base of desired copper oxide in respect with catalytic oxidation of carbon oxide. 1 tbl
