FIELD: metalworking. SUBSTANCE: aim of invention is to intensify cooling of outside layers of tyre metal with no alteration in chemical composition of steel and no basic changes in technology. This aim is achieved by that, in a method including heating of tyre piles in pit-type furnace to austenitizing temperature, ageing at that temperature, accelerated cooling of tyre pile in tank with water to tempering temperature with forced agitation of cooling water in lower zone of tyres, and tempering, additionally agitated is also cooling water in external zone of tyre pile with addition of fresh portions of water which are forced to rotate round tyre pile, fresh portions of water being added to external zone of tyre pile at the levels separated from each other by 850-900 mm of pile height. EFFECT: intensified process.
