FIELD: medicine, in particular, stomatology. SUBSTANCE: method includes determination of maximum amplitude of bioelectric activity of tongue muscles at the level of its tip and back during swallowing and in stress, functional state of tongue muscles by ratio of bioelectric activity of tongue muscles in dynamic and static tests expressed by ratio index. Value of ratio index of amplitudes of electromyogram of tongue muscles in swallowing and stresses equalling 1 (± 0.05) characterizes the balance of isotonic and isometric states of tongue muscles in swallowing and stresses, and is considered normal. Deviation of index value to its increase or decrease is indicative of disturbances of synchronization in excitation of motor components of tongue muscles due to change of muscle operation in isotonic or isometric conditions. Investigation may be carried out before and after application of orthodontic apparatus, before and after completion of orthodontic treatment. EFFECT: objective evaluation of functional state of tongue muscles.
