ELECTRIC SALT FURNACE TO MELT SCRAP OF ALUMINUM AND ALUMINUM ALLOYS Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, remelting of scrap of aluminum and aluminum alloys with iron inclusions. SUBSTANCE: bath with salt melt having melting pot with inclined hearth separated by filtering barrier from forehead placed in bath with salt melt below level of melting pot and displaced from it along horizontal line is located in lower part of housing of electric salt furnace. Vertical elevator with shelves positioned above melting pot is installed in upper part of housing of electric furnace, in zone of ascending current of waste technological gases. Starting material is loaded on to shelves of elevator through upper chute and slags and iron inclusions are removed from inclined hearth of melting pot into container through lower chute. Bottom drain to discharge melted aluminum out of furnace is made in lower part of forehead. Such design makes it possible to keep chemical composition and physical properties of starting aluminum and aluminum alloys in secondary aluminum that is to keep primary grade of metal and consequently to exclude addition of aluminum of technical purity to dilute impurities.
