FIELD: measurement technology, measurement of linear dimensions and profiles in mechanical and instrumentation engineering, automatic transfer lines of rolled products. SUBSTANCE: contact-free distance meter has two-channel receiving projection system with base distance between lenses of channels. Meter is inserted with illumination channel to form probing light line on surface of object, two toe-coordinate charge-coupled device matrixes arranged at fixed distances from lenses. Coordinates of points of object along probing light line are measured in one direction of each matrix and parallaxes are measured by perpendicular direction. Meter also incorporates built-in controller to generate coordinates of energy centers of images on CCD matrixes of points of object illuminated by light line and to compute values of distances to illuminated points of object by values of these coordinates. Contact-free distance meter can be supplemented with built-in system of reference distances to produce corrections for nonlinearity and for temporary instability of readings of meter.
