SUBSTANCE: invention relates to new antibacterial 5-(N-heterosubstituted- -amino)-quinolone compounds of the general formula (I) where (1) R¹,R²,R³ form any of multiple quinolones and related heterocyclic structures that are similar with that exhibiting antibacterial activity, and (2) (a) R⁴ and R⁵ are independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl or -C(=O)-X-R⁸ where X is covalent bond, N, O or S and R⁸ is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, arylalkyl, carbocyclic ring, heterocyclic ring, or (b) R⁴ and R⁵ together form heterocyclic ring that involves nitrogen to which they are bound, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and biohydrolyzed esters and solvates.
