Cover rods are pivotally connected to stem part telescopically movable relative to crown-carrying pole. Slide is positioned for sliding along pole. Supporting spacers are pivotally attached to cover rods. When umbrella is opened or closed, crown and slide are movable in opposite directions. Slide is provided with locking device allowing it to be fixed in upper position and facilitating umbrella cover to be tightened. Locking device cooperate with retainer positioned on crown or on movable part of stem. EFFECT: increased strength, simplified construction and improved wind resistance. 10 cl, 9 dwg
