FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: present invention partial catalytic oxidation of natural gas to obtain synthesis gas and formaldehyde, said process baing combined with CO-forming hydrogenation processes such as Fischer-Tropsch and methanol syntheses. Said oxidation is carried out using catalyst formed from one or more compounds of platinum group metals. Catalyst is used in the form of wire gauzes or applied onto substrate made of inorganic compounds so that percentage of platinum group metal or metals is within 0.1 to 20 wt % based on total weight of catalyst and substrate by carrying out process at temperatures from 300 to 950 C, at pressures from 0.05 to 5 MPa, at volumetric rates from 20,000 to 1,500,00 h-1.
