FIELD: alternative fuels. SUBSTANCE: synthesis gas mainly containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide for producing alcohols, ammonia, and Fischer-Tropsch process products with specified H2/CO ratio within 1.0 to 2.0 is obtained in two stage process comprising partial oxidation stage and catalytic conversion of residual methane with first-stage products. The first stage is accomplished by noncatalytic partial oxidation of natural gas with oxygen to give reaction products characterized by nonequilibrium content of H2O and CH4 and wherein O2/CH4 molar ratio is approximately 0.76-0.84, after which resulting reaction products are converted with adjusting additives of CO2 and H2O or H2O and CH4 to produce gas mixture, which undergoes catalytic conversion of residual methane with steam.
