FIELD: production of chlorine. SUBSTANCE: method is embodied in diaphragm cell having pairs of alternating anodes and cathodes which have holes and are coated with porous diaphragm resistant to corrosion. At least one part of anodes has hydrodynamic means for ensuring circulation of anode brine. Cell is provided with inlets for supply of fresh brine and outlets for discharge of produced chlorine, hydrogen and caustic. Method ensures control of oxygen content in chlorine and concentration of chlorate in caustic irrespective of introduced the fresh brine and concentration of brine by addition of aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid to brine in anode compartment of cell through distributor located over hydrodynamic means. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 20 cl, 1 dwg
