FIELD: TV equipment using video signal compression. SUBSTANCE: method for video signal compression involves generation of non-interlaced video signal frames, conversion of adjacent lines of sequential frames with non-interlaced video signals into interlaced video signal, which is used as main video signal, compression of main video signal, decompression of compressed main video signal, estimation of secondary video signal, generation of difference between respective picture elements of secondary video signal and video signal which corresponds to adjacent lines of non-interlaced video signal, compression of these difference samples, and conversion of main video signal and compressed difference samples for transmission. Device for compression of video signal has non-interlaced video signal source, line detector, compressing units, estimation calculation unit, subtraction unit, unit for compression of differences in picture elements, unit for conversion of compressed difference samples of picture elements and compressed main video signal for transmission. EFFECT: device design for generation of compressed signal for displaying interlaced and non-interlaced images without significant additional requirements for transmission rate of compressed interlaced signal. 8 cl, 7 dwg
