FIELD: petroleum refining industry. SUBSTANCE: in accordance with proposed method sample is oxidized, information parameter is measured and sought-for value is found by calculation. Oxidized sample is placed in indication system. Oxidation-reduction system for which value of electric potential of system employed in the capacity of information parameter is determined beforehand is used as indication system. Repeat measurement of value of information parameter of system is conducted after storage of oxidized sample in oxidation-reduction system. Sought-for value is found with the help of measured values of potentials. Sample is diluted before homogenization and is homogenized prior to oxidation. Sample is diluted to content of oil products from 0.01 to 0.05% by volume. Cerium sulfate (IV)/cerium sulfate(III) is used in the capacity of oxidation-reduction system. Oxidation lasts for 10-15 min. Oil products are kept in indication system in the course of 9-11 min at temperature of 80 C. Oxidized oil products are kept in indication system at temperature of 50 C.
