FIELD: fire fighting, in particular, fighting the fires of highly inflammable and combustible liquids contained in above-ground and half-buries reservoirs, tank trucks, tank cars, in tanks or river and sea ships. SUBSTANCE: as distinct from the known methods of fighting fires of inflammable and combustible liquids in reservoirs, used in the offered fire extinguisher is solid-fuel aerosol-forming substance that makes it possible to extinguish fire of inflammable and combustible liquids in boundary layer of aerosol directly above burning surface of liquid. Aerosol-generating fire extinguisher has hollow heat-insulated body accommodating fire-extinguishing members, gas chamber of final burning with outlet nozzles and initiating means. To provide for buoyancy of fire extinguisher and higher frequency of fire extinguishing, fire-extinguishing members are located in its lower and middle parts of its body having the second chamber of final burning located at body ends. Outlet nozzles are located above center of gravity and provided with plugs. EFFECT: higher efficiency of fire extinguishing, adaptability to its manufacture and reduced material losses in fire extinguishing with ecologically safe substance. 4 cl, 5 dwg
