FIELD: production of heat-insulating materials and articles, mainly, refractory ones designed for operation and heat insulation of objects at temperatures up to 1400 C. SUBSTANCE: heat-insulating material is produced by discharge and dewatering of suspension of mullite-silica fiber, 5-25-% sol of silica acid with particles sizing 2-3 mcm. Two-stage forming of heat-insulating refractory article is effected by discharge of suspension based on mineral fiber in latticed mold whose internal side and bottom surfaces are of shape similar to external surfaces of articles, dewatering with use of vacuum treatment and subsequent mechanical and heat treatment. Formed at the first stage is article shell, while at the second, less consistent part of article is formed. The plant for molding heat-insulating raw article includes two weighing batchers, latticed mold, vacuum vessel embracing the mold, device for pushing of raw article and system for treatment of its exterior.
