FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves opening posteroinferior region of mediastinum. Index digits are introduced into the mediastinum on both sides of the esophagus. Esophageal hiatus is extended bluntly across the orifice in frontal plane. The diaphragm is fixed with mediastinal hooks. Inferior and medial thoracic portions of the esophagus are mobilized with surrounding fascia and fat. The esophagus is brought down into the abdomen. The esophagus and the stomach are resected as one piece. Esophagointestinal or gastroesophageal anastomosis is applied in posterior mediastinum. Precise one-row suture is used.
