FIELD: chemistry of polymers, more particularly preparation of block copolymers based on diene hydrocarbons and α-methylstyrene. SUBSTANCE: invention describes method of preparing thermoelastoplastics by block copolymerization of α-methylstyrene and butadiene in organic solvent. Method is carried out using n-butyl lithium in the presence of methyl-tert butyl ether modifier, and "living" diblock copolymers are subsequently combined with polyfunctional combination agent. On completion of combination reaction, residual α-methylstyrene is copolymerized with styrene in block copolymer solution in 1:1-1.5 moles in the presence of initiating system consisting of n-butyl lithium, alkali metal alkoxide, methyl-tert-butyl ether at 1:1-3: 3-25 ratio. Present invention makes it possible to obtain complete conversion of α-methylstyrene and improve physico-methanical and adhesion characteristics of thermoelastoplastics.
