FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to block copolymers exhibiting properties of thermoelastolayers and belonging to types A-B-A and (A-B)nX, wherein A denotes polystyrene or poly-alpha-methylstyrene block, B polydiene block, X fragment of coupling agent, n ≥ 2, which find use in footwear industry, industrial rubber production, and for modifying road and roofing bitumens and plastics. In a method for production of thermoelastolayers by block copolymerization of polystyrene or poly-alpha-methylstyrene with diene in organic solvent under influence of organolithium initiator in presence of methyl tert-butyl ether modifier, said organolithium initiator is complex dissoluble in hydrocarbon solvents, which is prepared by interaction of ethyl chloride/n-butyl chloride with dispersion of lithium at molar ratio 1:(0.1-0.25):(2.25- 2.60), respectively, at 55-65 C followed by adding styrene to reaction mixture at styrene-to-active lithium molar ratio (0.1- 1.0):1, concentration of lithium initiator being 4,0•10-5-1,2•10-4 mole of active lithium per 1 g of vinylaromatic monomer.
