FIELD: high-temperature heaters for heat treatment of parts in powder metallurgy, experimental studies of liquid metals, alloys, and oxide compounds. SUBSTANCE: heater has working section placed in protective shell and current lead-ins whose aluminum oxide tubes carry metal terminal wire contacting the lead-ins. Working section is made of mechanical mixture of powders of which one conducts electricity and other functions as insulator; working section is placed in clearance between two refractory coaxial cylinders; external cylinder has bottom and internal one is, essentially, tube whose bottom edge rests on mentioned bottom; inner space of tube presents zone uniformly heated to very high temperature; current lead-ins made of graphite are arranged inside working section so that their bottom ends also rest on external-cylinder bottom and opposite ends of current lead-ins are spaced through certain distance from high-temperature zone; upper surface of working section is isolated from external gas medium by layer of non-conducting refractory powder and layer of granulated metal overall. Heater is capable of operating at temperatures as high as 1600 C. Current flowing through its working section does not exceed 10 A and voltage across current lead-ins is up to 220 V.
