FIELD: mining machinery and equipment. SUBSTANCE: method and device are intended for underground development of coal deposits. According to method, measured are physical and technological properties of cutting by means of rock-coal sensor. Measurement is performed simultaneously according to several different physical and technological properties by using sensors of various types. Control of operating member of machine in the form of linear value of lifting (lowering) is determined by algorithm of complex sensor with taking account of importance of each type of sensor. Data from sensors are sent by machine operator or automatically on principle of self-teaching. Device for monitoring and control includes auger of cutter-loader combine, turnable arm of auger and power-operated jack with pressure sensors, and electronic unit which processes electric signal sent from pressure sensor. Cutting auger is provided with single small-tooth rolling bit located on cylindrical surface of cutters with certain outreach towards cutting face. Electronic unit contains frequency filter which separates frequency of rolling bit percussive operation and decodes modulation on this frequency connected with initiation and termination of phase of inlet and outlet of rolling bit from active zone and point of delining of rolling bit to rock in floor of coal seam or in interlayers with reference to auger phase and determining position of center from boundaries of seam or interlayers, thus developing signal for complex sensor. Application of aforesaid methods and device improves reliability in determining position of operating member of cutter-loader combine relative to coal-rock boundary.
