FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: cutting tool has at least one high-melting temperature layer. Layers differ in controlled microstructure and phase state and have crystalline surfaces grown in preferred direction relative to surface of coated body. Coatings have at least one high-melting temperature layer, with at least one layer being high-density close-grained layer of α-Al2O3, which is preferably textured in (104) direction. Such construction allows tool with low surface roughness, high wear-resistance and increased impact toughness to be produced. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of tool. 8 cl, 1 dwg, 2 ex
