FIELD: manufacture of tools for working metal. SUBSTANCE: coating is formed by one or several layers of refractory compounds. At least one layer is formed by fine-grain crystalline aluminum oxide γ-Al2O3 with grain size less than 0.1 micrometer. Layer γ-Al2O3 is applied with use of process of double magnetron deposition at temperature of substrate in range 450 -700C depending upon material of tool body designed for applying coating. Layer γ-Al2O3 is highly textured in direction (440); it has no cracking and homogenous contaminations. EFFECT: enhanced quality of smoothness of surface of tool edge, improved quality of worked blank. 17 cl, 5 dwg, 6 ex
