FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a CVD coated cutting tool and a method for production of a cutting tool with the above coating, wherein the cutting tool can be used for chip forming machining. The said cutting tool comprises a substrate and a surface coating comprising a layer of Ti(C,N,O) containing one or more of C, N and O, and at least one layer of Ti(C,N) obtained by chemical vapor deposition at an average temperature (MTCVD) with a columnar structure that has an average grain width of 0.05-0.4 mcm on the front surface of the cutting tool along a straight line in direction parallel to the substrate surface in the central position between the lowermost and the uppermost interface in cross-section with a normal line to the surface perpendicular to the normal line to the substrate surface. A method for production of the said coated cutting tool includes provision of a substrate and precursors in a vacuum chamber, the said Ti (C, N, O) layer deposition at a temperature of 800-850ºC using precursors containing at least TiCl4, acrylonitrile (CH3CN) or other nitrile and H2, with a ratio Ti/CN 4-10 reflecting the volume percentage of TiCl4 and CH3CN or other nitrile introduced into the vacuum chamber.
EFFECT: cutting tool is provided with high wear resistance, for example, to peeling, as well as high performance characteristics for high-strength cast iron machining and high-speed cutting.
