FIELD: transport engineering; road and water vehicles; power plants. SUBSTANCE: internal combustion engine has cylinder block and mechanism converting reciprocating motion of pistons into main rotation. Gear train with alternate internal meshing is arranged in big ends connecting rod of cylinder-piston group. Gear of gear train is installed on main shaft which is made straight and is installed in antifriction bearings mounted in cylinder block supports. Gear wheel is made in hole of connecting rod big end, gear wheel contour formed by different curvature sections, for instance, in form of oval with side toothed surfaces of smaller curvature, can be made straight-line for alternate engagement with gear. Upper and lower surface of hole in connecting rod big end are made smooth, with radius not less than curvature of tops of gear teeth. Gear of gear train has cam alternately engaging with stops during working cycle. Cam is installed on shaft and is made in form half-gear. Straight travel stop is installed in parallel with toothed side surface of piston return movement wheel, and return travel stop is installed in parallel with toothed side surface of piston straight travel wheel.
