FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: post-accident handling of containments and/or miscellaneous safety barriers of fissionable nuclear materials escaping into reactor room and into surrounding atmosphere involves filling free spaces of rooms with solidifying material which is doped, if necessary, with specially chosen neutron absorbers and superplasticizers; layer-by-layer filling is effected from low elevations of reactor towards upper ones and from periphery to center of structure followed by weathering of layer. Height of solidified layer depends on amount and location of nuclear fuel, its residence time before solidifying, condition of building structures and solidifying material, and is determined separately for each particular case.
