FIELD: continuous manufacture of self-sintering carbon electrodes in melting furnace in which electrode is used. SUBSTANCE: blocks of first unsintered carbon electrode paste are fed into hardening chamber put on upper end of electrode and having open upper and bottom parts and internal cross-section corresponding to cross-section of manufactured electrode. Blocks of first unsintered carbon paste have diameter smaller than internal diameter of hardening chamber. Second unsintered carbon electrode paste is fed in the form of particles into clearance between hardening chamber and blocks of first unsintered carbon electrode paste. Second electrode paste has binder that hardens at temperature below that of first carbon electrode paste. Second carbon paste is heated and hardened with the use of heating device placed on hardening chamber and hardened jacket around blocks of first carbon electrode paste is formed from second carbon electrode paste. Central unsintered blocks of first carbon electrode paste are then sintered in hard carbon electrode together with hardened jacket with the use of heat generated in area of supply of electric current to electrode. EFFECT: manufacture of electrodes not contaminated with iron. 4 cl, 3 dwg
