SUBSTANCE: carbon-containing materials are fed to the upper part of the vertically arranged kiln, having a cylindrical cross-section. The kiln is equipped with one upper electrode and one lower electrode, and has a device to supply electric current to the electrodes for heating the carbon- containing material. The roasted carbon-containing material is discharged from the lower part of the kiln in the form of a single flow containing the material roasted near the peripheral section of the kiln.
