FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in the fact that during furnace operation simultaneously measured are the voltage across two geometrically measured are the voltage across two geometrically shifted points on the external surface of the steel wall of the furnace reservoir and the current fed to the electrode for which the position of the working end is being determined. The mentioned points are positioned at the nearest distance to the mentioned electrode and at the most removed distance from the other electrodes. Then the absolute value of the difference between the measured voltage and current of the electrode is calculated, and at an increase of the absolute value of the indicated difference the electrode working end is displaced upwards, and at its lowered downwards. EFFECT: provided determination of the position of the electrode working end during furnace operation. 4 cl, 3 dwg
