FIELD: production of aluminum by electrolysis.
SUBSTANCE: cell includes anode 10 on metal base containing nickel, cobalt and (or) iron, for example anode made of alloy containing 50 - 60 mass% (totally) of nickel and (or) cobalt; 25 - 40 mass% of iron; 6 - 12 mass % of copper; 0.5 - 2 mass% of aluminum and (or) niobium and 0.5 - 1.5 mass% (totally) of additional components. Anode 10 has coating on base of hematite and optionally the most outer coating on base of cerium oxyfluoride. Cell includes inside it fluorine-containing electrolyte 5 whose temperature is lower than 940°C, into which anode is immersed. Said electrolyte contains 5 - 14 mass% of dissolved aluminum oxide; 35 - 45 mass % of aluminum fluoride; 30 - 45 mass % sodium fluoride; 5 -20 mass% of potassium fluoride; 0 - 5 mass % (totally) of one or more additional components. Nickel-containing anode rod may be used for suspending anode 10 in electrolyte in such a way that it is turned to cathode (21, 21A, 25) and it has aluminum wetted surface 20, namely drained horizontal or inclined surface.
EFFECT: possibility of cell operation without passivation of anode surface and without contamination of produced aluminum.
