FIELD: transport engineering; automobile internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: frequency of cycles in engine cylinders is changed depending on change in load. Engine shaft rotational speed is chosen from frequency band at which fuel consumption is minimum. Mass of fuel delivered into cylinder is not changed within control range from idling to power at which cycle frequency is maximum. Number of working cycles required for needed power output is distributed between engine cylinders to provided minimum temperature difference between cylinders.
