FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating manganese carbonate, manganese basic carbonate or manganese (II) oxide or a mixture in hydrogen chloride flow. After separation of the main amount of azeotrope HCl-H2O at 150-300 C the reaction mixture is treated with hydrogen chloride saturated with vapors of reductive chlorinating mixture at 250-400 C. The latter consists of carbon tetrachloride and low-boiling alcohol - methanol, ethanol or propanol and cooled in the flow of dry inert gas. Foreign manganese-containing impurities in the end product are not detected by method of X-ray analysis. Obtained anhydrous manganese chloride has the main product at concentration 99.3-99.5%.
