FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in inorganic chemistry. The method of converting hydrogen chloride to obtain chlorine involves chlorination of iron (III) oxide with a gaseous mixture hydrogen chloride and hydrogen, extraction of iron (II) from the gaseous mixture of chlorination products, oxidation of iron (II) chloride with oxygen with extraction of chlorine and returning iron (III) oxide to the chlorination step. Iron (III) oxide is chlorinated at temperature 1000-1200°C with a gaseous mixture of hydrogen chloride and hydrogen in volume ratio 8:1. Iron (II) chloride is oxidised with oxygen at temperature 1000-1200°C with extraction of chlorine.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain chlorine from hydrogen chloride with high specific output without a catalyst and direct expenses on electric power.
