FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: citric acid is prepared by oxidation of 4- methylenetetrahydropyran with nitric acid at 4 to 70 C in presence of 0.01 to 0.02% of ammonium perrhenate. Citric acid is extracted from oxidate with amyl fraction of fusel oil, using at least double excess of extractant with respect to the weight of formed citric acid. Extract solution is subjected to distillation at atmosphere pressure to isolate citric acid with melting point 152.5 C and yield up to 98.5%. Distilled extractant is recycled.
