FIELD: technology of production of inorganic substances, particularly, methods of production from cobalt- containing materials of cobaltous sulfate applicable in electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method includes dissolving of cobalt-containing material with sulfuric acid in presence of reducer of trivalent cobalt into bivalent cobalt. Reducer is used in form of hydroxylamine sulfate with its ratio to cobalt contained in initial material equalling 1: (1.8-2.2), pH of solution within 1.5-2.2. Then, solution is purified from iron with hydrogen peroxide. Its quantity relates to that of iron contained in initial material as (0.9-1.1):1. Pulp is settled and filtered. Prior to filtration, produced solution of cobaltous sulfate is treated with phosphoric acid, with its weight ratio to iron content in initial material equalling (1.8-2.2):1. Solution after filtration is concentrated by evaporation. Salt is crystallized and centrifuged. EFFECT: high technical and economic indices of process and quality characteristics of cobaltous sulfate produced without application of complicated equipment. 2 tbl
