FIELD: hydrometallurgy of nonferrous metals, in particular, in processing of various oxidized cobalt-containing middlings. SUBSTANCE: recovery of cobalt (III) from middlings containing oxides of cobalt (III) is effected by their solution in mineral acid in the presence of reducing agent in the form of hydroxylamine sulfate or chlorine. Dissolving is carried out for 15-30 min with final value of pH 5 and consumption of reducing agent of 0.2-0.33 mole per 1 cobalt mole. EFFECT: considerably increased efficiency of the process due to increased degree of recovery of cobalt into solution, reduced consumption of reducing agent with reduced duration of the process. 2 cl, 2 tbl
